ARTIST STATEMENT

I grew up on a farm in the Mississippi River delta of east Arkansas.  Growing up there I was surrounded by open fields, big skies, bottomland woods, levees and the Mississippi and White Rivers. I have always been inspired by the beauty of nature, whether it be a firey sunset, a field of stubble after a grain harvest, reflections on the surface of water or the morning sun beaming through the woods.

I acquired a love of gardening from my grandmother, who had flowers, shrubs and trees blooming practically year round in her yard next door.  That love of gardening is inspiration for my floral paintings.  I feel that if I have captured the spirit of nature on my canvases I have succeeded as an artist.
